The St John’s College School community is celebrating an incredible achievement, with our team of runners raising more than £6,800 for the Bursary Endowment Fund at this year’s Cambridge Half Marathon and the total is still rising. This remarkable sum reflects not only the dedication of our runners, but also the generosity and support of families, friends and the wider SJCS community.

“Every contribution helps us open our doors to children who would thrive at St John’s but may not otherwise have the opportunity. This fundraising makes a very real difference to the futures we can help shape.”

On Sunday 8 March, the city came alive as thousands took to the streets for the Cambridge Half Marathon. Despite the grey skies overhead, the spirit across the event was bright, energetic and full of momentum.

Representing the Bursary Endowment Fund, a team of 14 runners made up of parents and staff donned their red SJCS shirts and set off with determination. Their goal was shared and simple: to help expand the life‑changing opportunities made possible through bursary support. Their commitment, preparation and enthusiasm shone throughout the route.

Adding to the atmosphere, more than 30 enthusiastic supporters from St John’s gathered at our official cheer point on the corner of Barton Road and Grange Road. This lively hub of encouragement quickly became one of the most uplifting moments of the day. Families, staff and pupils waved banners, rang bells and cheered every runner who passed. In true SJCS fashion, our supporters also handed out water and Haribo, offering comfort and a welcome boost to all participants braving the distance.

One of the highlights was watching SJCS pupils eagerly lining up to high‑five runners, sharing smiles and encouragement that lifted spirits and helped tired legs find new energy. Many runners commented afterwards that this moment of connection and support gave them the push they needed to continue strongly.

The success of our runners, combined with the warmth and enthusiasm of our supporters, made this a truly memorable event. The funds raised will make a meaningful difference, contributing directly to bursary places and widening access for future pupils.

We are immensely proud of everyone involved: the runners who trained tirelessly, the supporters who brought energy and positivity to the route, and the generous donors who have already helped us surpass £6,800.
